History of the Asscher Cut Diamond

This cut of diamonds was designed in 1902  by Joseph Asscher, who was the grandson of the  I.J. Asscher Diamond Company’s founder. It did not gain popularity for rings until the 1920s and eventually lost popularity again, being found only in vintage jewellery stores during the Great Depression. Eventually, it regained popularity in the early 2000’s.

Clarity

Asscher diamonds are best between a 60%-68% depth, which is measured from the top of the diamond to it’s lowest point, called the culet. Anything larger than that and the stone will look as if it is disappearing on itself. 

The depth of a ring helps make the stone look bigger. If you were to get a smaller carat, the depth can help it look larger than it actually is.
