History of the Radiant Cut

The radiant cut was created in the 1970s by Henry Grossbard. He was a part of the Radiant Cut Diamond Company.  The company released this cut in 1977. The radiant cut added more intricate facets to make it shine and shimmer more than the rectangular cuts at the time. 

Characteristics Of Radiant-Cut Diamonds

Clarity

SinceInclusions are hard to spot on radiant-cut diamonds, it is possible to go down to clarity levels like an SI1 or an SI2 and still have the clarity of a higher ranked diamond. It is possible to even select an I1 diamond and still have a clean-looking diamond. 


If you choose to have a larger diamond, something that would be two carats and above, you will find more inclusions. For those larger carat sizes, you would want to select VS2. This will be a clearer diamond and not show as many inclusions. 

Colour

A radiant-cut allows you to select an H or an I colour grade and still appear white in your setting. If you choose a yellow or rose gold setting you can choose a lower colour grading. The colour of your setting will still reflect through the diamond. 

Bow-Tie Effect In Radiant Cut Diamonds

Similar to ovals, pears, and marquise-cut diamonds, radiant-cuts have a bowtie effect. The lower-quality cuts will have darker bands through the center of the diamond than those that are well-cut. The higher-quality cuts will have a beautiful sparkle in the center.
